About
Every day of the year is a page
There are 366 days on this calendar and every one of them is a public place. Somebody was born on each of them. Somebody got married, quit drinking, moved country, or lost someone. Own The Day gives each of those days one page that anyone can sign.
Signing is free. Your name is numbered — you might be the 841st person on June 12 — and that number is yours from the moment you take it. An entry can be a person or a project, with one link that a human reads before it goes live.
The crown
Each day has a champion: whoever on that page has been given the most candles in the last seven days. Candles are free, five per person per day, spend them wherever you like. The window rolls, so nothing is won permanently and nothing is lost permanently either. Ties go to whoever signed earlier, and a day with no candles this week simply has no champion — we would rather show you an honest nothing than a made-up somebody.
Candles and money never mix. There is no way to buy a candle, and there never will be. The paid layer below buys a marquee and only a marquee.
What this is not
It is not a social network, it has no feed to scroll before bed, and it will never ask you for a password. There is no account: when you sign, you get a private link that lets you edit or delete what you wrote.
Season 0
This is Season 0 of Own The Day. Signing and lighting candles are free in Season 0 and stay free. Later in the season, each date can also be owned — a deed, one per date, shown in its own labelled box at the top of the page. Buying a day never removes, hides, or outranks anything a free signer made, and it can never take the crown. Money buys a marquee, not the guestbook and not the crown.
