Own the Day

FAQ

Questions people actually ask

Is signing free?

Yes. Signing a day and lighting candles are free in Season 0 and stay free. Dates themselves go on sale later in the season; that never touches anything a free signer made.

Do I need an account?

No, and you never will. When you sign, you get a private link on the spot. That link is how you edit or remove your signature — keep it, because there is no password anywhere in this product and no other way back in.

What is my number?

The order you signed that particular day. If you are the 841st person to sign June 12, you are #841 on June 12, permanently, even if you later edit or remove your message.

What is the crown?

Every date page has one champion: the entry with the most candles in the last 7 days. It is a rolling window, not an all-time total, so a day can change hands any week and nobody holds anything by having arrived first. Ties go to whoever signed earlier. If nobody on a date has a candle in the window, that date has no champion and we say so — we never show an invented one.

Can money buy the crown?

No, and there is no version of this where it can. Candles are free, capped at five per visitor per day, and cannot be bought, sold, gifted, or topped up — there is no paid candle anywhere in this product. A deed is a separate, clearly labelled paid box at the top of a page: it buys no candles, cannot take the crown, and moves nobody in the guestbook. The two systems share a page and nothing else.

Can my entry be a project instead of a person?

Yes. Every entry can carry one optional link — https only, with the query string stripped so it cannot carry an affiliate or tracking tag. A person reads every link before it becomes clickable, links are marked nofollow, and the number of clicks each one actually received is shown on the page next to it. Real clicks or an honest zero; we do not make that number up.

What is a deed?

One owner per date. A deed puts a name, a short message, an optional photo and one link at the top of a date page, and puts that name on the homepage on the actual day. Deeds open at $10; taking a date over from its current owner costs $5 more than they paid, and only $5 more.

Can I buy a date as a gift?

Yes — a gift deed is bought in someone else's name and comes with a reveal card you can send them. Birthdays come back every year, which is the entire point.

Why is my message not on the page yet?

Because a person is reading it. Clean, text-only signatures publish immediately; anything containing a link, a phone number, or wording the filter cannot score waits for a human. Every deed is read by a human before it appears, without exception.

Some dates cannot be bought. Why?

A number of dates on this calendar are remembered for something terrible. Those pages stay open for signing and candles, but ownership of them is either disabled entirely or reviewed by hand before anything appears. That list is maintained, and it is not up for debate.

How long will my page exist?

We commit to hosting what you sign for ten years. Nobody honest can promise 'forever', and we will not pretend otherwise while money is involved. If this ever shuts down, everything on it gets published as a downloadable archive first.

What happens to a deed if the rules are broken?

Offensive deeds are removed without a refund, and the ownership ledger of every date stays public either way. All sales are final.

Which day does the homepage show?

Today's, rolling over at midnight UTC. Every page shows a countdown in your local time so you know exactly when that happens where you are.
